Gregory Seldon

A Fayette County grand jury dismissed a murder charge against a Lexington man accused of fatally beating an acquaintance in 2011.

Gregory Allen Seldon, 39, was charged in the death of Dennis Kelly, who had been dead for several days when he was found in his Centre Parkway duplex May 5, 2011.

Details of Tuesday's proceeding were not disclosed. Grand jury meetings are closed to the public, and transcripts of grand jury testimony are rarely made available.

Fayette County Commonwealth's Attorney Ray Larson said Thursday he could not talk about grand jury proceedings. Seldon's attorney, public defender Sandra Downs, said she could not say much about the case because Seldon has other pending charges.

Neighbors checking up on Kelly, 57, found his body in the duplex he rented at 1282 Centre Parkway. No one had seen him or heard from him for several days.

Seldon was arrested Nov. 23, 2011, after police found evidence linking him to the crime. Seldon faces separate charges of robbery and being a persistent felony offender. Those charges are not related to Kelly's death.
