Madison County: Kiwanis Club plans auction

The Kiwanis Club of Richmond will hold its 41st Annual Live Kiwanis Radio-TV Auction from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The auction will be held at Richmond City Hall, 239 West Main Street in Richmond. Audience seating is available. The auction will be broadcast on Richmond's local cable access channel 12 on Time Warner Cable, along with live radio coverage on WEKY 1340 AM. Viewers and listeners may call (859) 624-5555 to place bids on the day of the auction.

The Kiwanis Club of Richmond is a volunteer service organization dedicated to serving the children of Richmond and Madison County. All funds raised at Kiwanis events are reinvested in the local community.

Economic development forum set for Friday

Madison County will host its fifth Southern Growth Policies Board community forum, "Madison County: Looking Toward the Future," from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Perkins Building on the Eastern Kentucky University campus.

The forum is part of an ongoing effort with the board to assist Richmond, Berea and Madison County with the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development plan. It is open to members of Richmond and Berea Chambers of Commerce and selected local high school student leaders.

The Southern Grown Policies Board ( is a regional public policy think tank representing 14 Southern states that develops and advances visionary economic development policies.

Eighth-grade band to perform at conference

The Madison Middle School eighth-grade band has been selected to perform at the 2013 Kentucky Music Education Association's In-Service Conference, which will be held Feb. 6-9 in Louisville.

Music teachers will gather at the Kentucky International Convention Center and be treated to clinics from nationally recognized leaders in the field of music education and concerts from the state's best student performing groups.

While Madison Central High School has performed at the clinic six times, this marks the first invitation to Madison Middle or any middle school band in Madison County. The group will perform at 10:35 a.m. Feb. 9 in the convention center ballroom.
