Snow-covered roads Friday morning resulted in only a handful of traffic accidents in Lexington by 8:15 a.m., with no injuries reported, said Lexington Police Lt. Mark Brand.

Only three or four two-vehicle wrecks occurred, and about eight vehicles ran off the roads in Fayette County, Brand said.

That was an improvement from the previous Friday, when snow and ice caused at least 81 accidents in Fayette County. About seven people were injured in the wrecks.

After the latest storm, many side roads in Lexington remained covered with snow and ice Friday morning while some treated roads had slick spots, according to the city's Division of Streets and Roads. Cold temperatures complicated treating roads.

Elsewhere in the state, the westbound lane of Interstate 64 in Bath County was temporarily blocked when a tractor-trailer wrecked, but the highway reopened at 7:20 a.m. Friday, said E-911 dispatcher Mike Jude. Jude said no injuries were reported.
