The Mi Mexico restaurant at 818 East New Circle Road, located near the Winchester Road intersection, reopened Friday after being closed for a week because of a roach infestation.

An inspection by the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department on Thursday afternoon "showed no evidence of roaches," said spokesman Kevin Hall.

"They've done significant work to the building," he said, adding a follow-up inspection is scheduled in 10 days.

The inspection comes as the restaurant is planning to move into a new building under construction next door.

A building permit was issued in November 2011 for the new restaurant, which was estimated to cost $822,154.08, according to city records.

It was not clear how soon the restaurant plans to move into the new building.

The restaurant's owner did not return messages.

The location is under different ownership than the three other Mi Mexico restaurants in Lexington and Georgetown.

The health issue began for the Mexican eatery after the health department received complaints about roaches being visible.

"We sent an inspector out and were able to confirm they had a roach intrusion on the food," Hall said Thursday. "It's an older building, and the main problem was there were a lot of openings that needed to be sealed.

"They've done pretty extensive pest control at least once a day for the past week."
