Gerald 'Jerry' Honchell, known for hair salon business, dies at age 76

Gerald Vance "Jerry" Honchell, 76, died Jan. 31, leaving a 50-year legacy of Jerome, a popular local hair salon.

Mr. Honchell was born March 29, 1936. Alice Wilson Honchell, his wife of 56 years, was also his business partner.

"He was truly a landmark of the city," said friend Nancy Juliano, citing his fashion show fundraisers for numerous Lexington-based charities.

Alice Honchell said her husband also developed a passion to help chemotherapy patients by stocking wigs in his store.

The Honchells' son Gregory Honchell of Lexington will take over Mr. Honchell's role in the business.

In addition to his wife and Gregory Honchell, Mr. Honchell is survived by his son Jeffrey Vance Honchell of Lexington.

Services were Monday. Mr. Honchell was buried Monday at the Oakdale Cemetery in Irvine.
