Keeneland announced Wednesday that it had successfully bid to acquire the library of the defunct Thoroughbred Times magazine and its website.

Assets of the bankrupt trade magazine, which closed abruptly in September, were recently auctioned online.

Keeneland also acquired about 220,000 photographic prints and 250,000 digital images dating from the 1940s to the present.

Keeneland said it will add the 10,000 volumes and 57 file cabinets of historic clip files and photographs to its extensive public collection as soon as they can be catalogued.

"The Thoroughbred Times library is an extremely well-crafted collection," Keeneland Library director Becky Ryder said. "Much of it will fill gaps in Keeneland's collection, and some of it will be used in future digitization projects. The photographs and photographic negatives are unique, priceless resources that will greatly enhance the work of researchers."

The Thoroughbred Times' archives include books and journals, some dating from the 19th century, including complete runs of The Blood-Horse, Daily Racing Form monthly charts, Thoroughbred Record and Thoroughbred Times, and historical materials including The Spirit of the Times, Turf Field and Farm, Irish Racing Calendar and British Racing Calendar.

The collection includes stallion registries and stud books from Europe, Asia, Australia, Latin America and the United States.
