Driver dies when vehicle flips, crashes into gas pumps in Madison County

Published: February 7, 2013

A driver died in Madison County early Thursday after a vehicle crashed into gas pumps at the Kingston Shell Mart on U.S. 421, according to a statement from Madison Sheriff's Department.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The name is being withheld until the family is notified, the statement said. Officials at the Madison County coroner's office could not immediately be reached.

At 1:55 a.m., a vehicle heading south on U.S. 421 went out of control on a curve just before the Shell Mart, the statement said. The vehicle left the road and traveled through the gas station parking lot, overturning, striking two gas pumps and ejecting the driver.

The vehicle ended up on its top against one of the pumps. Speed is the only factor considered as a cause of the accident, according to the statement.
