A remodeling of Lexington's Target near Nicholasville Road will soon mean the addition of fresh produce and other groceries.
The company began the expansive project in December and expects to complete it by March 24, said spokeswoman Kirsten Halloran.
The building, which is around 135,000 square feet, is not being expanded.
The finished store will offer nearly 10,000 square feet of space dedicated to fresh foods including meat and produce such as bananas, seasonal fruit, berries, baby carrots and bagged lettuce. There will also be pre-packaged baked goods such as dinner rolls and pies.
Although the offerings are limited, Halloran said the section will offer guests 90 percent of the food categories typically found in SuperTarget stores, which include all groceries.
The changes are part of a series of remodels of Target's general merchandise stores. The company has made similar changes to its Louisville and Northern Kentucky stores, according to its website.
Spokeswoman Jamie Bastian said the chain does not yet have plans to share about a renovation of the Target at Hamburg.
To make room for the groceries, the company is contracting the space given to areas such as home goods and apparel and accessories.
The remodeling also will see "reinventions" of other areas such as beauty, baby and shoes, Halloran said.
