Some sharp-eyed neighbors helped a McCreary County woman Thursday.

The woman, who was not identified, was walking from her home to her car on Richard Stephens Road in the Pine Knot community when three men dressed in dark clothes assaulted her, according to a news release from state police.

Some neighbors saw a strange vehicle parked near the home and went to check on the woman. The three men told the neighbors they were FBI agents but refused to show identification.

The neighbors wouldn't leave the woman alone with the men, and the men left, according to the release.

State police were called to the scene at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

On Friday, Timothy Prater, 30, of Somerset, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, as well as impersonating a police officer, first-degree robbery and unlawful imprisonment.

He was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.

State police said they are still investigating the motive for the attack, and they expect to make more arrests.
