■ Kentucky entrepreneur Bart Mahan is now a partner in Kentucky-based Tipaloo Publishing and has been named chief operating officer of the company that publishes STORY magazine. Mahan is the creator of Ryker Dental Corp. and Buggies Unlimited; both were acquired by other companies. Half Price Books will open a grand opening at its new store in Fayette Place, 127 West Tiverton Way, Thursday through Feb. 18. The first 100 customers each day will receive a free tote bag and a $5 HPB gift card. Each day one customer will receive a $100 HPB gift card.

This store is HPB's second location in Lexington and fifth in Kentucky.

The Fayette Place grand opening store hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and Feb. 18, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Kroger Marketplace has opened at 890 Richmond Plaza in Richmond. The marketplace includes furniture, home accessories, toys, Fred Meyer Jewelers, a pharmacy and an in-store health care clinic. An additional 130 employees were hired to fill the positions needed.

The store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Pharmacy hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Stites & Harbison is opening an office in the RiverCenter II building in Covington. It is the firm's first office in the Greater Cincinnati area and extends the firm's daily practice into Northern Kentucky, Ohio and southeastern Indiana. Construction attorney William G. "Bill" Geisen has joined Stites & Harbison as a member of the C onstruction Service Group and will continue his practice in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky market. Geisen's construction practice focuses on contract negotiation, dispute resolution and litigation. He is licensed to practice in Kentucky and Ohio.
