Barrett Block, a senior at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, finished in second place in the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament episode that aired Tuesday night. He won $35,600.
Leonard Cooper of Little Rock, Ark., won the tournament and took home $75,000. Nilai Sarda of Marietta, Ga., finished third.
"It felt terrific to make it to the finals," Barrett said in a statement issued by the long-running TV quiz program. "I tried my best to get as many questions right as I could and not miss any, which is easier said than done, but it's the only fail-safe strategy. It worked very well up until the finals when I had a tremendous amount of difficulty getting buzzed in."
Eight players from the Lexington area, including Barrett, have made it into the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament since 1999. Block is the fourth student from Henry Clay High School since 2007 to have participated.
Barrett says he plans to take a risk with his winnings and play the stock market.
Jeopardy!, which is syndicated, airs in Lexington at 7:30 p.m. weekdays on WKYT (Channel 27).
