GEORGETOWN — Serena Sandusky led a balanced attack with 12 points as Bryan Station ousted Henry Clay 46-34 Tuesday in the girls' 42nd District semifinals at Scott County.
The Lady Defenders (17-10) will face Scott County for the district title Thursday at 6 p.m. Both finalists will advance to the 11th Region tournament.
"Scott County, we split with them, and they're a tough team to contend with," said Donna Murphy, Bryan Station's coach. "We have to play that final game here on their court, so that's going to be interesting. My only hope is that we come ready to play and that we play to our ability. If we do that, we're going to give anybody a game. If we don't, then it's going to make it that much more interesting for us."
Victoria McCoy backed Sandusky with nine points and Lakeysha Stennis had eight. Hallie Crumbie and Deshante Clay finished with identical totals of six points and 11 rebounds, with Crumbie adding three assists and four blocks.
"We played good team ball," Murphy said.
Henry Clay (15-14) had the leading scorer as T'Laya Lyvers totaled 14. Arie Porter led the Blue Devils with 10 rebounds, plus four points.
The Devils had shooting woes all night, finishing 14-for-54 (25.9 percent) from the floor, including 0-for-9 from three-point range.
Stennis scored all of her points in the first quarter, when the Defenders scored the first five points and led 15-10 at the break.
Bryan Station, 13-for-37 (35.1 percent) from the field, never lost command.
"I think that 2-3 zone beat them, kind of stifled their offense," Murphy said. "So we wanted to stay in that most of the game and just be patient, and try to execute our offense. I think things worked well. We missed some bunny shots and had some turnovers, but overall I was pleased with the way we played."
