School board members and their families could take part in school district health plans under a bill passed Thursday by the House Education Committee.
Under House Bill 283, school boards could vote to take part in the district plan. The districts could pay part or all of the premiums for school board members, and the members could pay for their dependents.
Rep. Tim Couch, R-Hyden, who co-sponsored the bill with Rep. Rick Nelson, D-Middlesboro, said the bill would help school board members, who receive minimal financial reward for their work. A similar bill filed last year failed in the state Senate.
