University of Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops and his wife, Chantel, have bought a house in Lexington's Beaumont neighborhood for $1.45 million.

"That makes it the third-highest single-family home sale in the past year," said David O'Neill, the Fayette County property valuation administrator.

No. 2? UK women’s basketball coach Matthew Mitchell’s $2.06 million purchase of the McMeekin Place home that once belonged to Rick Pitino when he was UK’s men’s basketball coach.

Going back to men's basketball coach John Calipari, who bought his Richmond Road home and an adjoining lot for $2.3 million in 2009, "you get all three in the top 20" home sales in Lexington since 2001, O'Neill said. (Calipari's ranks No. 4 on that list, he said.)

The Stoopses' nearly 9,000-square-foot stone home at 2281 Guilford Lane has five bedrooms and 6½ bathrooms, according to the Fayette County PVA database. That's plenty of room for the family, which includes young sons Will and Zach Stoops.

The home also has a Jacuzzi, an elevator, a wood deck and a 2,499-square-foot finished basement, including a theater room.

The house was built in 2008 by Deborah J. and James C. Ball III. Deborah Ball did not return a call for comment.

Apparently, the Beaumont home, which backs up to a walking trail, was a bit of a bargain: it had been listed for $1.8 million.
