The Fru-Gal: Where kids can eat free in Lexington

Save your money and add in activities for a fun family experience

There's no question it's expensive to be a parent.

To save on your dining-out budget, you can choose restaurants that offer kids' nights with either free or reduced-priced meals for children.

Many area restaurants also offer art projects, visits from mascots or other fun activities to make the evening an entertaining one for you and your family.

Among the area restaurants offerings kids' nights are:

Applebee's: All Lexington locations offer a free kids' meal to children ages 12 and under with an adult entrée purchase all day Tuesdays.

BD's Mongolian Grill: The company's location at Hamburg offers one free kids' meal for children ages 11 and under per adult meal purchased from 5 p.m. to close Tuesdays.

Bob Evans: Both Lexington locations offer a free kids' meal for children ages 12 and under with each adult entree purchased from 4 p.m. to close Tuesdays. The Lexington locations are along Richmond Road near New Circle Road and Winchester Road near Interstate 75.

Buffalo Wild Wings: Both Lexington locations at South Broadway and Old Todds Road offer $1.99 kids' meals to children ages 12 and under all day Wednesdays.

Chick-fil-A: The company's Lexington locations offer kids' nights on different days each week. The promotion offers a free kids' meal with the purchase of an adult combo. The restaurants also offer arts and crafts, as well as visits from the chain's cow mascots. The times are 5-7 p.m. Mondays at Hamburg, 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesdays at Harrodsburg Road and 5:30-7 p.m. Thursdays at Nicholasville Road.

Denny's: Both Lexington locations at Newtown Pike and Nicholasville Road offer up to two free kids' meals for children ages 10 and under with each adult entrée purchased from 4-10 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Fazoli's: All Lexington locations offer kids' nights for children ages 12 and under from 5-8 p.m. Tuesdays. Kids' meals cost 99 cents with a limit of three per adult entrée purchased. Crafts are also available for children.

Firehouse Subs: All three Lexington locations offer a 99-cent kids' meal for children ages 12 and under with the purchase of an adult combo. There's a limit of two kids' meals per adult combo purchased. The Upper Street and Leestown Road locations offer the deal all day Sundays, while the Fayette Mall location offers it all day Mondays.

IHOP: The location at Palumbo Drive offers free kids' meals for children ages 12 and under with the purchase of an adult meal from 4-10 p.m. Fridays.

Johnny Carino's: Kids ages 12 and under eat free with an adult entrée purchase all day Thursdays at the Lexington locations at Hamburg and Fayette Mall.

Mancino's Pizza & Grinders: The company's location at Leestown Road offers a free kids' meal for children ages 12 and under with each adult meal purchased from 5 p.m. to close Tuesdays.

Moe's Southwest Grill: Children ages 12 and under get a free kids' meal with each adult combo purchased all day Tuesdays. The Lexington location is at Fayette Mall.

Old Chicago: The company's location at Hamburg allows children ages 10 and under to make their own pizzas from 4-9 p.m. Tuesdays for $1.99. Servers bring out the pizza dough, and the kids place their own toppings. The price includes a drink.

Smashing Tomato: All Lexington locations offer $1.99 kids' pizza or pasta for children ages 12 and under from 6-8 p.m. Mondays. There's a limit of two kids' meals per adult entrée purchased. The locations, which are along Richmond Road and at Hamburg and Fayette Mall, also offer arts and crafts.

Steak 'n Shake: Children ages 12 and under eat free all day Saturdays and Sundays. There's a limit of one free kids' meal per $8 spent.

Texas Roadhouse: Both Lexington locations offer 99-cent kids' meals for children ages 12 and under on Tuesdays. There is no limit on the number of kids' meals at that price. The locations also offer arts-and-crafts activities, and mascot Andy the Armadillo visits the Beaumont location.

Zaxby's: All three Lexington locations offer free kids' meals for children ages 10 and under on Saturdays and Sundays. There's a limit of two free kids' meals per adult meal purchased. The Lexington locations are along Richmond Road near Man o' War Boulevard, Leestown Road near New Circle Road, and West New Circle Road near Russell Cave Road.
