Soldier, wife die of gunshot wounds at Fort Knox

February 23, 2013

A soldier and his wife died of gunshot wounds at their home on base at Fort Knox on Friday.

Spc. Christopher Meeks and his wife, Krista Meeks, are believed to have been involved in a domestic dispute before the shooting, according to an Army news release.

Fort Knox police who were responding to a 911 call from the home in the Oak Park neighborhood heard gunshots coming from inside when they arrived at about 3:40 a.m. Friday.

When the four officers went inside, they found Christopher Meeks dead and Krista Meeks injured. The officers attempted first aid, but she died at the scene.

The couple's two children were in the home. They were not injured and have been put in foster care.

Although initial indications are that the shooting was the result of a domestic dispute, the Army's Criminal Investigation Command will make a final determination after an investigation, according to the release.

Christopher Meeks was a human resources specialist who had been at Fort Knox since March 2011.
