A Carter County teenager died Saturday in a one-car crash, Kentucky State Police said in a news release.

Lewis J. Fankell, 17, of Grayson was pronounced dead at the scene by Carter County Deputy Coroner Ronnie Wallace, state police said.

Fankell was driving a Pontiac Firebird east on Ky. 1444 when he lost control of the car, which went over an embankment and struck a tree.

The crash happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Carter County. Alcohol was not suspected as a factor, state police said.
