Nine people displaced by fire at Lexington fourplex

Published: February 24, 2013

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire in Lexington that displaced nine people early Sunday.

The four families were moved into temporary shelter at a local motel, said Winn Stephens, director of development for the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Red Cross representatives will meet Monday with those displaced to discuss replacement clothing, additional food and housing alternatives, Stephens said.

The fire was reported at 1:44 a.m. Sunday at a fourplex on Linney Court, which is off Wilson Downing Road near Southern Middle School.

Everyone in the building was able to get out safely, and there were no injuries, said Lexington Division of Fire Battalion Chief Andrew Areaux.

The fire started on the building's second floor.
