One Jessamine County resident died and another was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning, Nicholasville police said.

The driver, Joe Gayheart, 27, of Nicholasville, was pronounced dead at the scene on Union Mill Road on the city's east side, Nicholasville Police Officer Kevin Grimes said.

Gayheart's wife, Whitney, 27, was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition Monday.

Joe Gayheart was driving a black Chrysler east when the car left the road and struck a tree, Grimes said. The crash was reported about 2 a.m. Sunday.
