A man who was hit and killed by a train in Nicholasville early Wednesday has been identified.
Charles Everett Carter, 55, of Lexington, was hit by a Norfolk Southern train just before midnight Tuesday, according to a news release from Jessamine County Coroner Michael Hughes.
It is unclear whether Carter's death was an accident or suicide, according to the release.
The train, traveling toward Nicholasville from Lexington, had just come through the crossing at Baker Lane when Carter was seen on the tracks. The train could not stop in time.
Carter was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner had asked for the public's help in identifying the victim.
Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg is in charge of arrangements.
