Bowling: Total of 1,630 tops previous doubles record

Published: March 3, 2013

Brian Eve and Terry Page won the doubles title in record fashion in the 73rd Greater Lexington USBC Open Tournament. Eve, who has a 127 average, rolled an actual series of 612, plus his 249 handicap, for a total of 861. Page rolled a 616 actual, plus his 153 handicap, for a 769.

Eve and Page's 1,630 total topped the previous record of 1,583, set by Billy Craycraft and Mike Fairchild in 1992 at Southland and matched by Marc Massie and Bobby Conley at Joyland in 1994.

The tournament's team title went to the Fighting Wildcats. Richie Horn, Nick Russell, Ron Shearer, Dempsey Gross and Todd Jenkins combined for a 3,592.

The singles champion was Tim Fowler, who had a handicapped total of 813. He bowled an actual total of 759.

In the all-events competition, Eve again took advantage of his handicap and rolled a 2,395 (1,648 actual). Melinda Craig won the actual all-events title with a 2,197.
