The University of Kentucky softball team has postponed its home opener against Marshall scheduled for Wednesday because of expected winter weather.

A makeup date for the game has not been announced. The postponement means that 17th-ranked Kentucky's home schedule now begins with this weekend's three-game series against Southeastern Conference rival Mississippi (16-9). Games are scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Admission to all three games vs. Ole Miss is free because of the continued construction of the new UK Softball Complex. The new stadium is nearly completed, but until construction in the seating areas is done, admission to games will be free. Fans may contact the UK Ticket Office with any questions at 1-800-928-2287. Kentucky (16-3) is off to the best 19-game start in school history. UK went 5-0 last weekend at the Under Armour Invitational in Tampa, Fla., defeating Illinois, USF, Loyola Marymount, Central Michigan and Western Michigan.
