Pet calendar: Pet-related events and information for March

Dog Training Classes

Rosetree dog training. Basic dog obedience class starting 6:30 p.m. March 11. Puppy class starting 6:30 p.m. March 14. Classes meet once a week for six weeks. $120. PetSuites Pet Resort, 2057 Bryant Rd Lexington. Contact Chris Miara, (859) 797-1346.

■ Obedience classes begin March 12: puppy class through all levels. Most classes meet at the National Guard Armory, 4201 Parkers Mill Rd., with additional classes at Kandoo dog training building, 4976 Old Versailles Rd., Lexington.

Dog sports

Agility is a dog sport where a handler and dog that is off-leash navigate a course of about 20 obstacles, which may include jumps, tunnels, ramps, a seesaw, and a series of upright poles that the dog must weave through. The goal is to complete the course accurately and quickly.

The following local people and dogs have qualified for and will be competing at the American Kennel Club 2013 AKC National Agility Championship. March 15-17, Tulsa, Okla.: Megan Arszman, Lexington, and her Pembroke Welsh corgi, Dally; Melanie Hatton, Lexington, and her Parson Russell terrier, Eli; Sandra Haigler, Versailles and her Golden Retriever, Roxy; Libba Hughes, Versailles, and her Polish Lowland Sheepdog, Molly; Merinda Tiffany, Lexington, and her Cardigan Welsh corgi, Porter; and Camille Weber, Lexington, and her Papillon, Gus.

Sheila Cooke, Wilmore, and her Weimaraners, Aaron and Strider, qualified too but will compete at the Greater Louisville agility trial in Louisville the same weekend.

Pet Activities
