An Ohio man riding a moped was killed Sunday afternoon in Ashland in a collision with a car that ran a red light, Kentucky State Police said.

The crash happened about 2 p.m. at U.S. 23 and the Grant Bridge in Greenup County. Benjamin R. Johnston, 27, of Portsmouth, Ohio, was southbound and turning left onto Grant Bridge on his 2012 Jonway moped.

Jamie Miller, 44, also of Portsmouth, was northbound in a 1998 Ford Explorer. Miller apparently failed to stop at a red light at the intersection and hit Johnston' moped, police said. Johnston was taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, where he was pronounced dead at 2:05 p.m. Miller and a juvenile passenger were wearing seat belts and were not injured.

Drug use is suspected to be a factor in the collision, according to Kentucky State Police. Charges are pending completion of the investigation, police said.
