Dr. Erich Maul, left, operated a simulator Thursday as he and nurses Carrie Shepperson, middle, and Terry Nalle participated in a training session of the Kentucky Children's Hospital's pediatric transport team. The confined-space training was held in a helicopter on the helipad on the roof of University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. The training involved simulators that replicated real-life conditions in both an ambulance and a helicopter. This type of exercise is relatively new nationwide.
