Lexington police released a video Friday of two women suspected in the March 8 theft of a purse and the estimated $2,200 in jewelry it contained at Central Baptist Hospital where the victim's husband was being treated, according to detective Mike Sweeney.

Krissie Reffner of Manchester said her husband's $700 gold wedding band and a $1,500 pair of earrings were in the purse that she left hanging on a chair after eating at the Central Baptist cafeteria.

Reffner said she was distracted because her husband, Robert, had cranial surgery the night before the incident.

A hospital employee found the purse and told another employee she was going to turn the purse in to lost and found, Sweeney said.

But a woman approached the hospital employee, claiming she knew Krissie Reffner and would give the bag back to her, Sweeney said. That woman appeared to be in her 20s and was wearing black clothing.

After leaving the cafeteria, the woman in black handed the purse to another woman wearing black pants and a red sweater, and they left the hospital together in a small U-Haul truck.

When Reffner returned to the cafeteria looking for the purse, hospital employees realized it had been stolen.

Someone used Reffner's debit card at an unidentified Marathon gas station that same day, Sweeney said.

The wedding ring had sentimental value, Reffner said. She and her husband married in 2010.

Her husband is recovering well from his surgery, Reffner said. Both said Friday that they want the ring back.

"It's important to him, and it's important to me," Krissie Reffner said.
