A woman suffered serious injuries in a wreck that shut down part of Winchester Road Monday night.

A Ford Ranger pickup truck was inbound on Winchester Road when it crossed the center line and hit an outbound van carrying the woman, a man and two children, said Lt. Eddie Hart of the Lexington police.

The woman who was driving the van was taken to the hospital with "some pretty serious injuries to her lower body," Hart said, adding that the injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The other occupants of the van and the pickup truck driver were not injured, Hart said. The adults involved were wearing seat belts and the children were in proper child restraints, he said.

The crash occurred at about 8:20 p.m. and resulted in Winchester Road being shut down between Man o' War Boulevard and Bahama Road.

Hart said the police department's collision reconstruction unit was investigating the crash and likely would release more information later.
