After releasing a video of two purse thieves last week, Lexington police charged two women with the theft, which occurred at Central Baptist Hospital, detective Mike Sweeney said Tuesday.

Sweeney released a video of the two on Friday. On Monday, Susan Williams, 40, and Sandra Pursifull, 50, were charged with felony theft. Williams also was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and possession of a stolen credit card, Sweeney said.

On March 8, a hospital employee who found the purse in the cafeteria was about to turn in to the lost and found, but Williams stepped forward and said she knew the purse's owner. Sweeney said Williams then handed the purse to Pursifull.

Sweeney said police have not recovered the purse, which reportedly had $2,200 worth of jewelry inside.

The women were being held Tuesday in the Fayette County jail. They were scheduled to appear in Fayette District Court on Tuesday afternoon, jail spokeswoman Jennifer Taylor said.
