Wiggins, Towns named to Hoop Summit World team

Karl Towns of St. Joseph's in Metuchen, N.J., was considered the No. 1 player in the class of 2015 before joining the 2014 class, where he's ranked in the top 10.


UK commitment Karl Towns and UK recruiting target Andrew Wiggins will join forces next month to take on three future Wildcats in the Nike Hoop Summit.

Towns and Wiggins were named to the Hoop Summit’s World Select Team on Tuesday. Wiggins scored 20 points and led the World team to an 82-75 victory in last year’s Hoop Summit. Towns is of Dominican descent and represented the Dominican Republic in last year’s Olympic trials. Wiggins was born in Canada.

The U.S. team was announced in January and includes UK signees Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison and Julius Randle. Uncommitted 2013 recruit Aaron Gordon is also on the squad.

The 16th annual Nike Hoop Summit will be played April 20 in Portland, Ore. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. ET and is usually televised nationally.

Nerlens Noel and Archie Goodwin played for Team USA last year. Other past participants include Anthony Davis (2011), Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (2011), Marquis Teague (2011), Kyle Wiltjer (2011), Terrence Jones (2010), Enes Kanter (2010), Brandon Knight (2010), DeMarcus Cousins (2009), John Wall (2009), Patrick Patterson (2007), Marvin Stone (1999) and Wayne Turner (1995).
