Woodford County Tiger Bikes ready to ride

Woodford County Tiger Bikes, a physical education program in the Woodford County Schools, has purchased 40 Specialized Hardrock 29" Disc bicycles, 10 bicycle trainers and other equipment with support from Pedal The Planet and the Specialized Bicycles First Gear Program.

Woodford County Middle School is planning its next 5-mile ride for current classes with a police escort April 18-19. Volunteers who have current Woodford County background checks can ride with the students and provide first aid and water at stations along the route.

"It's a great opportunity to get the community involved in our programs and gives students the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned in a real-world setting," said Melody Hamilton, a Woodford County teacher who started the Tiger Bikes program in 2002 with donated bikes and equipment.
