Apparently, Lexington movie-goers really want to see Top Gun and Stand by Me on the big screen again. Those two movies were far and away the most popular suggestions when we asked readers what they'd like to see if we bring back the LexGo Totally Awesome '80s Film Festival for a second edition.

Hundreds of folks turned out to the Kentucky Theatre for the five movies in the festival, which began Feb. 27 and ended Wednesday. We screened The Goonies, Coal Miner's Daughter, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Risky Business and The Breakfast Club.

The most popular films bookended the series, The Breakfast Club and The Goonies.

Suggestions for the LexGo Film Fest 2.0 ranged from the silly (Spaceballs) to the very serious (Matewan). They were general (anything with John Candy, anything with the Muppets) and terribly specific (Rocky IV).

One reader asked that we not screen anything involving children or teenagers.

Another requested to see all the decade's Oscar winners for best picture, which in order were Ordinary People, Chariots of Fire, Gandhi, Terms of Endearment, Amadeus, Out of Africa, Platoon, The Last Emperor, Rain Man and Driving Miss Daisy.

Let's be clear: No decision has been made about whether or when we will bring back the LexGo Totally Awesome '80s Film Festival. But if we do, we'll certainly pick from the dozens and dozens of movies you suggested.
