Daughter of Versailles mayor sentenced to probation in drug case

March 29, 2013

Fred Siegelman, shown here at a city council meeting, is resigning as mayor of Versailles.

The daughter of Versailles Mayor Fred Siegelman was sentenced Friday to two years probation after pleading guilty to reduced drug-trafficking charges.

Rachel Siegelman, 19, was indicted by a Fayette County grand jury in January on four felony counts of trafficking in a controlled substance. She pleaded guilty to four counts of misdemeanor trafficking.

Fayette Circuit Judge Thomas Clark sentenced Siegelman to a total of 12 months in jail, but he probated that sentence for two years. If she gets in trouble again or violates terms of the plea, Siegelman would serve a year in jail.

Mayor Siegelman attended the sentencing but declined to comment.
