Tompkinsville woman, 20, dies in crash

EDMONTON — A 20-year-old Tompkinsville woman was killed Sunday when she lost control of her car and it slid into the path of an oncoming vehicle, Kentucky State Police said Sunday.

Melena Hughes Capps was traveling east on Ky. 90 near Willow Shade about 11:25 a.m. when her car slid into the path of a westbound 2003 Chevy pickup driven by James Spera, 57, of New Castle, Ind. Hughes Capps was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Metcalfe County coroner. Spera, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Cumberland County Hospital, where he was treated and released.
