Kentucky volleyball team schedules fan event for April 19

Kentucky Coach Craig Skinner and his Wildcats return to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the second year in a row to face a physical opponent in No. 1 Penn State.

The University of Kentucky volleyball team has scheduled a practice open to fans on April 19 in Memorial Coliseum.

The practice will be followed by a reception during which fans will have the chance to interact with UK players and coaches.

"We are committed to growing the sport of volleyball here in Lexington and Central Kentucky," Coach Craig Skinner said. "We've seen a real passion to learn more about the game we love here and the team and staff are really looking forward to this event."

UK finished 22-11 last season and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years. After the season, Skinner was rewarded with a new a six-year contract worth $1.125 million, plus incentives.

The April 19 fan event will begin with an open practice from 4:30 to about 6 p.m. Programs will be made available highlighting volleyball terminology and rules, and the coaching staff will explain each drill.

The reception will include food, and the night will also feature a question and answer session about the 2013 season.
