1 pleads not guilty; 2nd man seeks speedy trial in nightclub shooting death

Herald-Leader Staff ReportApril 5, 2013

Joseph Richardson pleaded not guilty Friday to a murder charge in the 2010 death of Rocardo "Tezzy" Cole after a shooting outside a Lexington strip club.

Meanwhile, attorneys for co-defendant Kenneth Winston Wadkins, 32, filed a motion Friday seeking a speedy trial. No trial date has been set.

On Dec. 18, 2010, Cole, 29, was shot twice in the parking lot of Camelot West on Alexandria Drive. He was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he died.

Fayette Circuit Judge James Ishmael Jr. scheduled an April 11 pretrial conference for Richardson, 26. Ishmael also scheduled an April 12 status hearing for both defendants.

After Friday's brief proceedings, relatives got into a heated and loud confrontation outside the courtroom and near the third-floor elevators. Bailiffs quieted the group and no one was arrested.
