Louisiana State, ranked second in the country, scored five runs in the first inning on four extra-base hits and went on to beat No. 7 Kentucky 11-4 Sunday in front of 10,971 fans at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.

The Tigers, who have won 11 games in a row, are 30-2 for the season, 11-1 in Southeastern Conference games. Kentucky (22-8, 6-6) suffered its first series defeat of the season.

UK played in front of a total of 38,198 fans during the four-game road trip that also included a victory over No. 9 Louisville.

The Cats had nine hits Sunday, the biggest being a three-run home run by A.J. Reed in the seventh. With Matt Reida and Zac Zellers on base, Reed smashed a 1-2 pitch over the rightfield fence for his team-high eighth homer of the year.

UK starting pitcher Corey Littrell (4-1) suffered his first loss of the year, working four innings, allowing nine hits and a career-high nine runs — four earned — walking three and striking out one.

LSU starter Cody Glenn (5-1) pitched six innings, allowing six hits and one run.

UK scored in the first inning when Max Kuhn knocked in Zellers with a single.

But the Tigers responded with five runs, capped by a homer by Jacoby Jones.

That rally also included a triple by Alex Bergman, which extended his hitting streak to 20 games, and a sacrifice fly by Mason Katz, who leads the nation in runs batted in.
