Lexington police are investigating a reported abduction of a 12-year-old from her bedroom just before 2 a.m. Thursday, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

The girl told police that a man "forced her to leave under threat of harm to herself and her family" and made her walk to Marlboro Park near Russell Cave Road, where the man tried to assault her, Roberts said. Police aren't releasing the girl's address, Roberts said.

The girl told police she got away from the man. She knocked on the door of a home on Benton Place near the park and asked for help, Roberts said.

Police are taking the girl's account seriously, Roberts said.

Roberts said the man is described as black, about 30 years old, with short dreadlocks and an unshaven face.
