Blanton's Single Barrel, by Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, was awarded the Chairman's Trophy for the bourbon division of the 2013 Ultimate Spirits Challenge, according to a company news release.

Of Blanton's, the judges wrote, "Leather and buttered popcorn pop up on the nose, along with vanilla, dried cherry and oak notes all reminiscent of a panettone cake. The texture is oily and fat, while the taste is buttery, rich and sumptuous. It finishes with notes of toasted wood and butter. An incomparable whiskey that unfolds in the glass."

This is the second consecutive year that Blanton's has won, beating all other brands and several of Buffalo Trace's own bourbons, including Col. E.H. Taylor Small Batch, Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20-Year-Old, and William Larue Weller, all of which were among the finalists.

In the Canadian whiskey category, Buffalo Trace's Caribou Crossing Single Barrel took a Chairman's Trophy, also for the second year.
