James and Vicky Black have a fairy-tale romance on and off the ice.

James plays Prince Charming to his wife's Cinderella in Disney on Ice: Dare to Dream, a touring production that comes to Rupp Arena this weekend. Asked about their favorite moment in the show, Vicky picks the instant they glimpse each other across the ice.

"When I arrive at the ball and he is at the bottom of the ice and we lock eyes and skate up to each other, ... there are days when I look at him and think 'Oh, my goodness, that really is the man I love,'" she said.

"I know it sounds corny but it is so true," James said, in true Disney form. "I was going to pick the same moment."

Go ahead, just say "awww."

James, 32, and Vicky, 30, met as teenagers when they were competitive skaters in Great Britain. She is from Northern Ireland, and he is from Lincolnshire in England. The two dated briefly as teens when they were on the British national figure skating team but went their separate ways.

They had reconnected by the time Vicky started with the Disney shows in 2003. They were engaged when James joined the troupe in 2005. Living the Disney life, together 24/7, does not, however, mean they are obsessed. Their 2008 wedding was nearly Disney-free.

"I think my dad made a reference about how I was his little princess," said Vicky, but that was about it.

Still, they take the iconic roles they've been playing for about seven years seriously. They both love the moment when kids in the audience believe their beloved characters have come to life.

"The biggest thing to me is when I go out there is that people really believe my story," she said. "I want them to think it is really Cinderella. For us it's important to be true to those characters."

The couple have traveled the world together, touring through Europe, North and South America, Southeast Asia and Australia. On the road 10 to 11 months of the year, they consider the tour their home. And both said the thing they couldn't live without on the road was each other.

If the Cinderella/Prince Charming gig is ever up, what couple would they like to portray next? Mary Poppins and Burt, the main characters in one of Vicky's favorite films. It holds its own Disney magic for her.

"I met Mary Poppins at Disneyland just this Christmas," she said, "I retreated into being that 5-year-old girl."
