Perry officials await identities of victims at burning house

April 21, 2013

A man and woman found dead at the site of a house fire in Perry County had not been identified Sunday.

The bodies were sent to the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort on Saturday for autopsies, Perry County deputy coroner Brianna Rutherford said.

"We have an idea who they are, but more information needs to be gathered in order to establish positive identification," she said.

Kentucky State Police said in a news release that officers were called when firefighters from Avawam found the body of the man outside the house in the Busy community. The fire was reported to state police at 7:19 p.m. Friday. Firefighters found the woman's body in the house while trying to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire and the causes of death of the two individuals remained under investigation, Rutherford said.
