April 23, 2013

Jamie Lucke

Herald-Leader editorial writer Jamie Lucke has been named a Sigma Delta Chi Award winner by the Society of Professional Journalists.

Lucke won the editorial writing category for daily newspapers with a circulation of 1 to 100,000 or non-daily publications.

She was recognized for a series of 2012 editorials regarding the "war on coal."

A team of writers from The Hartford Courant was honored for editorial writing among newspapers with a circulation of more than 100,000.

Judges in the editorial writing category considered "whether the conclusion is logical, fair and of general importance to the community."

The Society of Professional Journalists received 1,700 entries for this year's Sigma Delta Chi Awards, which include competitions for newspapers, television and radio, magazines, newsletters, research and online media, according to a news release. Of those 1,700 entries, 84 were chosen as award winners.
