The 2-year-old boy who was killed in a wreck Tuesday on Interstate 64 in Franklin County was identified as Jair Gutierrez of Louisville, Franklin County Coroner Will Harrod said.

Jair was not riding in a car seat and was thrown from a Ford Explorer that crashed about 8:30 a.m., about three miles east of the Lawrenceburg exit. The boy died at the scene of blunt-force trauma, Harrod said.

Jair's parents and two other adults were in the vehicle, and none appeared to have been wearing seat belts, Franklin Sheriff Pat Melton said Tuesday.

The boy's father, José Alberto Gutierrez of Louisville, was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he was in fair condition Wednesday, UK Hospital spokeswoman Julie Phillips said.

The mother, whose name was not immediately available, also was thrown from the vehicle and was taken to UK Hospital, but her injuries appeared to be minor, Melton said.

Two men who were riding in the back seat refused treatment, he said Tuesday.
