Hazard man dies in crash with coal truck

A man from Hazard died after being involved in a wreck on Hal Rogers Parkway in Clay County Friday afternoon.

Ricky Sumner, 44, was driving a Chevrolet Impala east on the parkway 2 miles west of Manchester when the vehicle crossed the center line and hit the rear trailer wheels of a westbound tractor-trailer coal truck just after 2 p.m., according to a news release from state police.

Sumner, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by helicopter to St. Joseph Hospital in London, where he was pronounced dead.

The tractor-trailer driver, Jackie Bowling, 54, of Manchester, was not injured.
