Boyfriend of mother charged with murder in death of Boyd County baby

May 5, 2013

A Stanton man was charged with murder Sunday in the death of a 2-month-old girl, Kentucky State Police said.

Brett R. Thompson, 18, was being held in the Boyd County Detention Center.

On Saturday, the Boyd County Sheriff's Department responded to a home in Westwood after receiving a report about an unresponsive baby.

Boyd County EMS also responded and took the infant to King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, where she was pronounced dead by Boyd County Deputy Coroner Ralph Beadle.

The state medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy Sunday and determined the infant's death was a homicide as a result of blunt force trauma. The infant had multiple head and brain injuries.

At the request of the sheriff's office, Kentucky State Police detective Ben Cramer began an investigation and determined that Thompson had struck the infant, police said.

Thompson is the boyfriend of the infant's mother. State police did not identify her or the baby.
