The parents of a man found dead in a Lexington motel room in March were arrested Monday and charged with murder and exploitation of adults.

Peggy Whitlock, 58, and Jerry Lakes, 64, were being held in the Fayette County Detention Center, according to the jail website.

An online obituary lists them as the parents of Gerald Lee Lakes, 24, who was found dead March 13 in a room at the Knights Inn on Stanton Way.

Two emaciated people, whose names were not released, were also in the room. They were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for treatment. Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said at the time that one or both of the malnourished people "had either mental disabilities or a physical handicap."

The Fayette County coroner's office said soon after that there was no trauma to Lakes' body.
