University of Kentucky junior safety Ashely Lowery

— Kentucky junior safety Ashely Lowery has been released from the hospital less than a week after a serious car accident and could be back on campus by June.

Family friend and spokesman Doug Stutsman said Friday in a telephone interview that Lowery was released Thursday from Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where he spent several days in intensive care after the wreck last Saturday morning near his hometown of Cleveland, Ga. The two-year letterman was not wearing a seat belt when he was thrown 100 feet from his 2006 Nissan Altima. The car overturned several times after leaving the road in White County.

Stutsman says Lowery suffered only "bumps and bruises" and could return to Lexington in time to help first-year Wildcats coach Mark Stoops with summer youth camps.
