LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The city of Louisville is placing 19 new surveillance cameras in trouble spots to crack down on illegal dumping.
Mayor Greg Fischer said he wants to stop people from turning neighborhoods into dump sites.
The new cameras are solar-powered and motion-activated and can detect movement from long range. The cameras work well in the dark and are portable, so they can be moved.
The cameras cost about $600,000 and were financed with Metro Council Neighborhood Development Funds.
Metro Council amended a city ordinance last year to allow vehicles involved in illegal dumping to be impounded by police. So far, four vehicles have been impounded under the ordinance.
