Xerox is adding 250 full-time positions in Lexington, the company announced Monday.

Hiring is under way, according to a Xerox news release. The work will support five Xerox clients that are expanding operations in Lexington; those clients were not identified.

Xerox's Lexington office at 101 Yorkshire Boulevard is hiring customer service representatives, supervisors, and quality analysts who have previous customer service experience.

Those hired will receive salaries above minimum wage plus benefits, including health insurance and paid time off for vacation and sick time. They also will be eligible for promotion, depending on performance.

"We have a history of promoting from within," Xerox spokesman Chris Gilligan said.

This is the second job bump of the year for Xerox, which employs nearly 5,000 people in Kentucky, including more than 3,100 in Lexington.

In April, Gov. Steve Beshear said Xerox would create an additional, unrelated 100 new jobs to support a Kentucky-based call center for those seeking health insurance information through the Kentucky Health Benefit Exchange. The exchange is part of the federal Affordable Care Act.

Gilligan said that Lexington's Yorkshire Boulevard office now has 800 to 900 employees; the company also has Lexington locations on New Circle Road near Lexmark, Leestown Road, Fortune Drive and Harrodsburg Road. In Kentucky, Xerox operates branches in London, Erlanger, Madison County, Beattyville and Monticello. Those offices were formerly operated by ACS, which was acquired by Xerox in 2009; ACS took the Xerox name last year.

According to its news release, Xerox is a leader in the call-center outsourcing industry, providing service to clients for more than 20 years, with more than 46,000 agents in 160 call centers around the world.
