There will be a parade, singing and dancing in May's Lick on Saturday, all in celebration of asparagus.
A festival in honor of the most elegant of all vegetables will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Mason County community. The annual May's Lick Asparagus Festival offers asparagus in all kinds of dishes, from soup to dessert, plus fresh spears from the asparagus beds that flourish in the area's fertile soil. Activities include asparagus farm tours, live music, and arts and crafts. A pork pullin' will be 6 to 10 p.m.
On Friday, a fish fry will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. to benefit the May's Lick Fire Department, and proceeds from a Stiletto Stampede will go to the Women's Crisis Center,

Nicholasville's Wine & Vine Fest
Wineries from across the state, plus Kentucky Proud Foods, and artists and craftsmen will gather in downtown Nicholasville on Saturday for the Kentucky Wine & Vine Fest. Hours are noon to 7 p.m.
Participating wineries are: StoneBrook of Camp Springs; Rising Sons, Lawrenceburg; Wight-Meyer, Shepherdsville; Equus Run, Midway; Best, Elizabethtown; Rose Hill Farm, Butler; Prodigy, Frankfort; Generation Hill, Alexandria; and Talon, Lexington. Admission to the wine tent is $25.
A wine and tapas party will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Euro Wine Bar, 102 South Main Street. Guests will be served eight wines and a six-course tapas meal. Fine wine educator Jordan Painter will discuss the wines. Cost is $40. Go to Kywineandvine.com.
Cake convention comes to Lexington
Cake decorators from all over the world will come to Lexington in August to display their skills at the 38th annual International Cake Exploration Societé Convention and Sugar Art Show.
There will be competitions, classes on sugar art techniques, and displays of hundreds of sugar art masterpieces created by decorators of all ability levels and ages from across the United States and other countries.
The event will be Aug. 8 to 11 at the Lexington Convention Center and Hyatt Regency Hotel. The Sugar Art Stable, featuring cakes created by the decorators, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 10 and 11. Tickets are $10 a day, with proceeds going to Mom's Closet and Old Friends.
