Police: Intoxicated Richmond man allowed child to drive

May 21, 2013

A Richmond man was charged with wanton endangerment after he allegedly allowed a small child to drive, the Madison County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Off-duty deputy Michelle Albertson was at her home Monday night when she saw a small child driving a 2011 Suzuki. The child could barely see over the steering wheel, the news release said.

There was a man in the passenger seat. Albertson got into her cruiser and caught up to the Suzuki as it pulled into a driveway at 124 Frances Drive, near the Boonesboro exit off Interstate 75.

The adult, Robert Buckner, 41, got out of the vehicle and was "extremely intoxicated," the news release said.

Buckner was charged with wanton endangerment and endangering the welfare or a minor. He was being held in the Madison County jail.
